7 Ways To Take Back Your Therapy Time

In the therapy world - time is money.

Now, most therapists don’t get into this field to clock every minute as a billable unit. You most likely got through your graduate school programming because you genuinely like to help and support humans in their mental wellness journey.  You know - help them heal from trauma and give voice and power to some of our most vulnerable populations - kids!

And at the same time there is nothing wrong with wanting to be fairly compensated for all the hard work, effort, and energy you put into being the best therapist you can be.  Both in and out of session.

So why does time = money in therapy?

For every session you have (if you are billing insurance companies - and best practice if you are private pay) you need to complete your notes before billing out to get compensated.  Best practice for note turnaround? 24 hours. Annnnddd some insurance companies actually require you to complete notes by this tight deadline.

Long story short - if you aren’t up to date on your paperwork it is going to create a delay in how quickly you are compensated for your time.

Another reason is that all the other stuff outside of the therapy session - think notes, phone calls, coordination, faxing records, etc. stacks on top of each other to eat away time in your calendar.

And time in your calendar? Well, being the most efficient with your therapy day gives you your time back.

Whether you are someone that wants to squeeze in an extra client or two, wants a lunch break that is truly a break (no crumbs on the keyboard for you!), OR you want to dip out early a couple of days per week and keep your same client load - working more efficiently is the key to all of this!
