Even when the divorce process is over, the parenting process continues.
And hot take? Parenting doesn’t exactly end at 18 either. And the parenting process? Well… it feels like there can be 1,000 different decisions to make at any given moment. Forms to return to school, baseball games to put on the schedule, and the leotard that was left in the change room that you need to double back for. Don’t even ask what’s for dinner.
So how do families navigate this when they are living in two different homes with two potentially different sets of ideas of how things should be?
Okay - real talk? Navigating this with two parents in the same home is tough. Air traffic controller vibes. Parents are definitely craving a little wizard magic. I wanted to share an invaluable resource that my divorced and separated families have used for YEARS that takes a lot of stress out of the co-parenting relationship. With all the important pieces in one place, co-parents can manage schedules, track expenses, share files, and send secure messages. AND there is a concrete history of all of the communication, decisions, switches, etc. So what is this resource? Our Family Wizard! Their website states that families can't thrive after a divorce if conflict defines interactions between parents - and ohhh I feel that. Our Family Wizard is an app that requires a small fee per month that allows decision making, shared calendaring, and offers flexible communication for last minute changes. And another bonus? This app is frequently recommended and required by the courts- it’s that good! Another genius part? It has features that prevent inappropriate language, making it less likely to escalate emotional disputes. In all honesty - even if parents might be THINKING the inappropriate language the communication will be significantly more effective without it. Our Family Wizard also has a ton of blog posts and resources for parents - even if they don’t use the app! If your co-parenting families need a little wizard magic check out this resource HERE!
