Hi, I'm Ann,
and I'm here to help.
Hello and Welcome! I am Ann Meehan of Meehan Mental Health Services. As a therapist I feel passionate about helping children feel confident, secure, and empowered. I specialize in helping children, adolescents, and families heal, grow, and move forward from life’s difficulties, big emotions, and challenging behaviors. I believe that when clients can shift the way they see the world they will start to feel better and make healthier choices to improve their quality of life, as they live in the world as the best version of themselves. I also believe that each young person has their own unique set of strengths and talents and when people can grow in their strengths they can thrive.
Clients say I am someone who really listens to them to gain a full understanding about what are the specific and unique difficulties their child is facing, what their current strengths are, and what techniques and resources will be the best fit to help their child find relief from symptoms and move forward. Some clients describe me as genuine, non-judgmental, supportive, and someone that meets families “where they are at”. They would also say that therapy is active and that I provide an atmosphere where young people and families are encourage to be active and participate in mental wellness outside of sessions.
I hold a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Bemidji State University, am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), and am a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S ™). I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), am Certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through EMDRIA, trained in Love and Logic Parenting, and Choice Theory. I am also a Certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral (TF-CBT) therapist, and uses sand tray in my work with young people and their families. I am an approved supervisor with the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy for those seeking licensure as an LPCC or a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or those seeking to become a Registered Play Therapist.
What this all means is I have had a lot of training with how to work specifically with children and families to use methods that will be most effective to gain relief for current stressors, big feelings, tough situations, and troubling behaviors. I have been in the mental health field supporting children, families, and adults since 2008. I am currently an independent contractor practicing out of MAP Behavioral Health Center in Duluth, MN where I provide outpatient mental health therapy services. I have a history of working with young people in their homes, school settings, the juvenile justice system, and in outpatient settings. When I am not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, gardening, travel, and photography.
